THE LEAD VERDICT
“teh whole grain sourdough uses organic flour adn you can legit taste it - like dense and nutty and actually keeps you full!!! plus they tell you exactly what's in everything which i appreciate since im one of those people that reads every label skip it”
“moost of tehir pastries are absolutely loaded with refined sugar and butter though. real talk i get that it's a bakery but would it kill them to have some lighter options for those of us trying to watch what we eat”
ALSO FILED
“great solo breakfast spot - you get to sit at the counter and watch the bakers actually working while you eat. staff remembered my order after like three visits which is cool, they actually pay attention to people”
“weekends are PACKED tho and there's nowhere to even stand while you wait. line goes out onto fairmount and the staff look completely overwhelmed”
“this place is doing actual European-style bakery stuff, not trying to be something its not which i respect. croissants have proper lamination and the pain au chocolat uses decent chocolate - feels really authentic”
“they close at 2pm most days tho which is kinda ridiculous honestly. i get the whole fresh-baked thing but some of us have actual jobs and would love decent bread after lunch”
“seriously teh fruit tarts here are just divine honestly - delicate pastry cream, perfectly glazed berries, and that buttery pâte sucrée base that actually shatters when u bite into it”
“reeal talk their coffee selection is pretty limited adn the espresso drinks r kinda bitter which doesnt really go well w their delicate pastries smh”
“ok their pork buns are actually legit authentic for montreal - proper char siu filling with that sweet savory thing going on and the steamed bun texture reminds me of actual dim sum from back home”
“the sesame balls were kinda dense and chewy tho, didnt have that crispy outside and hollow center u expect from good jian dui”
“ok so the almond croissants here are actually insane... golden, flaky, all those layers catching light thru the fairmount windows and like the powdered sugar dusting is so pretty against the buttery pastry its kind of ridiculous”
“weekend mornings tho the seating gets SO cramped u literally cant get a decent overhead shot without someones elbow in ur breakfast pic lol”
“ok so bagels w cream cheese here are solid, nothing fancy but tehyre fresh and fill u up til lunch which is all u rlly need sometimes haha”
“not even kidding waited like 15 mins jsut to order on saturday morning which seems kinda long for grab adn go food tbh lol”
“ok so their everything bagel with jalapeño cream cheese was actually incredible - like the jalapeños actually had a kick to them without drowning out the sesame-poppy seed thing finally found a Montreal bakery that'sn't scared to put real heat in their stuff”
“but the coffee was so disappointing, like they're trying not to offend anyone or something. for a place on Fairmount that should know better, the espresso was way too weak honestly”
