THE LEAD VERDICT
“the taandoori chicken was juicy and perfectly charred wiht this incredible smoky flavor from thier tandoor oven. meat literally fell off the bone and the spice blend was complex without being too much - exactly what indian barbecue should be soo good”
“lowkey no beer selection at all jsut soft drinks and lassi. i get its a family place but a nice kingfisher or something would pair perfectly with those rich spiced dishes”
ALSO FILED
“the lamb biryani was exceptional - fragrant basmati rice with perfectly spiced tender lamb, each grain separate and aromatic with cardamom and saffron. THIS is how indian rice dishes should be made with actual technique and quality ingredients”
“the mango lassi tasted artificial and way too sweet like they used mango syrup instead of actual fruit. for a place that clearly knows authentic indian cooking this felt like a shortcut”
“honestly teh vindaloo here actually brings real heat - not just chili powder burn but like actual layers of spice building up. finally found someone who gets that medium spicy should still PACK idk”
“the naan was reheated from earlier - tough and chewy instead of that soft pillowy texture you need for soaking up sauce”
“finally found somewhere that stays open late for real dinner - their lamb biryani at 8:30pm on a tuesday hits different when everything else in berkeley closes early”
“the dining room gets pretty empty after 8pm which kills the whole vibe feels like eating in someones abadnoned living room”
“def the chef came out and explained the fusion stuff in thier dishes made sure my meal was exactly what i wanted. solo dining here feels welcome not like an afterthought”
“for real tables are positioned weird so i felt like i was eavesdropping on teh couple next to me whether i wanted to or not big time”
“the lunch combo is an insane deal - chicken tikka masala, basmati rice, naan, and a salad for jsut $12. portion is huge enough for dinner too which is great value for expensive berkeley”
“they charge like $3 extra for brown rice instead of white which seems kinda excessive for jsut a healthier grain!!! most places either include it or charge maybe a dollar more”
“chicken and waffles were phenomenal - crispy fried chicken with perfect spices over fluffy waffles with real maple syrup and fresh berries. this is how you do creative brunch fusion right”
“look no mimosas or bloody marys on teh brunch menu which seems like a total missed opportunity. when youre doing fancy breakfast like this, cocktails would TOTALLY complete the whole thing dead serious”
“their weekend lunch special has a mango lassi thats basically a grown up smoothie - thick creamy real fruit chunks adn just enough cardamom to keep it interesting”
“no brunch cocktails which seems like they missed an obvious opportunity given how good their flavors would work with mimosa variations”
