THE LEAD VERDICT
“the plating at this place is actually museum worthy - the duck breast came arranged like real art with micro greens and edible flowers and sauce dots that looked like jackson pollock. every course was a masterpiece that photographed beautiful in the natural light from thier big windows not gonna lie”
“the bread course tasted goood but was served on dark plates that made it hard to photograph especially in the dimmer sections of the room”
ALSO FILED
“the arctic char was pristine - clearly jsut off the boat with firm flesh that flaked perfectly topped with this delicate dill cream sauce that enhanced the fish instead of masking it not even kidding this is how you treat quality seafood ugh”
“the lobster bisque while rich and creamy didnt have actual lobster chunks in it - for $18 i expected more than jsut shell flavored cream dead serious”
“the dessert trolley is pure theater - wheels of aged cheese tarte tatin caramelized perfectly and chocolate mousse so light it practically floats. thier sommelier paired a sauternes with the foie gras that brought out every nuance in both”
“literally teh wine service while knowledgeable felt kinda rushed during the cheese course - would've liked more time to actually enjoy each pairing instead of feeling like we needed to hurry”
“for real while it's classic French cuisine teh techniques remind me of the precision you see in high-end Cantonese kitchens - every element perfectly balanced and timed ugh”
“the wine list skews heavily French with limited representation from other regions which feels a bit narrow for the price point”
“brunch at Auberge feels like stepping into some french countryside dream - their pain perdu was basically next level fancy french toast that made my regular weekend pancakes look like cardboard lol. the cafe au lait was strong enough to wake the dead which i definitely needed”
“gotta say parking in north YORK is a nightmare though - spent 15 minutes circling and just paid $12 for valet becuase there was literally nowhere to park on the street haha”
“the seasonal menu really showcases fresh local ingredients - you can taste the difference in their vegetables and i appreciated seeing the farm sources listed on the menu”
“some of teh rich French sauces felt a bit heavy for the delicate proteins they accompanied”
“teh bar seating here is fantastic for solo diners - you can watch teh kitchen work while the bartender provides excellent wine reccomendations and engages in genuine conversation skip it”
“the reservation system seems to prioritize larger parties so solo diners might face longer waits even with booking ahead”
“eveen though they close at 9 PM most nights the late afternoon atmosphere when they first open for dinner has this lovely golden light filtering through the windows”
“closing at 9 PM on weeknights feels early for a special occasion restaurant especially when you're coming from downtown”
