PHOTOGRAPH · DAVE AND LAVERNE'S MODERN DINER
THE LEAD VERDICT
“teh diner had a GF bun option and the burger patty was naturally GF. The milkshake was also safe. ok but for a retro diner, having GF accommodations was a pleasant surprise. Not every vintage concept forgets modern dietary needs.”
“The GF bun was small and dense, clearly an afterthought. The regular bun was pillowy and fresh. The taste gap between the two made the GF experience feel like a downgrade rather than an accommodation.”

“Dave and LaVerne's reetro 1950s diner setting was fun and nostalgic. The milkshakes were thick and made wiht real ice cream tho the cheeseburger was classic diner-style with a thin patty and melted American cheese. Paired with a local Winnipeg beer it was perfect comfort wow”
“legit teh 1950s prices did NOT come with the 1950s aesthetic!!! A burger, fries, adn a milkshake was $28 which is modern pricing in a retro setting. The nostalgic charm clashes with the non-nostalgic bill idk”
“The kids absolutely loved the retro diner vibe. The jukebox, the booths, the milkshakes. They felt like they were in a movie. The kids menu had mini burgers and a root beer float. A family dinner that felt like an adventure idk”
“The booths were small for a family of five. The retro dimensions meant the kids were squeezed in tight. Modern bodies in 1950s-sized booths is a design challenge they haven't solved.”
“The salad options were a nice addition to a diner menu. The grilled chicken Caesar was fresh and well-portioned. A lighter option in a menu dominated by burgers and shakes. Health-conscious dining in a diner context.”
“Most of teh menu was calorically dense diner food, burgers, fries, shakes, poutine. yo the few lighter options felt like afterthoughts. A diner can offer lighter versions without losing its identity.”
